Presentation Skills

The impact of training depends on purposeful learning transfer once your employees are back on the job. Nearly 50% of all training happens in a classroom setting, and a study of 100,000 people after their attendance in a variety of different trainings revealed the following:

  • 15% didn’t try to use what was trained
  • 70% tried and gave up
  • 15% tried and got positive results

These results clearly show 85% of the value of the training was lost. Being a victim of this type of training return can be avoided.

In this presentation skills course, we will train your trainers to increase learning transfer. We include purposeful training development techniques and activities to complete before, during and after the training that are critical to increase the participants’ use of the training back on the job.

What does training look like from the eyes and experiences of the participants? Once this view is explored and acted upon, participant curiosity and interest naturally surface. We will define how to create solid interest that catches participants’ attention and gets them thinking!

Training content

  • Organize the WHAT… determine the content so it hits your objectives and the participants’ needs, then design the training by selecting what to cover and when in the agenda.
  • Determine the HOW… training activities get participants involved and active, which are essential to training success. This workshop lays out many different training activity options and tips on how to select the most appropriate ones.

“Platform” Skills

  • Training activities are only part of the mission to engage participants. The trainer’s “platform” skills are vital to secure the attention of participants, facilitate their comprehension and increase their retention.
  • The largest influence on the trainer’s message is what their body language is saying. We will examine use of hands, stance, facial expressions and how other body language movements further the training message.
  • “Platform skills” covers a multitude of trainer behaviors beyond body language… all must be in sync with the training message.

Support Materials

  • How PowerPoint can be used to stimulate, not numb the audience.
  • Handouts and other support materials – ensure these are useful and not distracting.
  • Facilitation practice.
  • Use presentation stress and nerves to be alert and achieve peak performance state.
  • Each workshop participant designs, develops and facilitates a section of a training workshop during these two days and presents this to the group.
  • Immediate feedback is given on content design and “platform” skills so the participant can improve immediately.
