Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMAs) are multi-skilled allied healthcare professionals. CCMAs work across the domain of healthcare facilities to aid inpatient treatments and clinical operations, supporting the work of doctors and other healthcare professionals. Demand for individuals with the highest professional standards continues to grow. If you are looking to get ahead in the medical assisting world, certification is a step in the right direction. Our 15-week, online program consists of two (2) online courses that will prepare you to take the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). This course results in 6 undergraduate credits.

Clinical Medical Assistants should have or be pursuing a high school diploma or GED. Students who complete this comprehensive course would be prepared to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification examination. This course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future degree in Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Nursing (LPN) or a Nursing (RN).
This program is eligible for 6 credits toward a bachelor's degree at Davenport University (MEDA255-Clinical Laboratory Procedures, MEDA254-Clinical Laboratory Preparation).
Training content
The CCMA courses Include:
Clinical Patient Care
Learn procedures of ambulatory care, obtaining accurate clinical and historical patient data, and patient education/safety. Includes some medical terminology and pharmacology concepts and the effects medications have on the body and disease.
Clinical Laboratory Procedures
Gain an understanding of basic laboratory procedures, including specimen collection and processing.
Course delivery details
The CCMA training is offered in an instructor-led on-demand/online format. Participants complete 100% online classes with scheduled virtual check-ins and virtual simulation labs.
Certification / Credits
After completing the courses, you will be able to:
- Provide responsible communication in a healthcare setting
- Comply with HIPAA/HITECH, OSHA, CMS and other healthcare regulations and laws
- Comprehend the use of Diagnosis and Procedure codes and employ Electronic Health Records
- Gain an understanding of laboratory and specimen collection, cardiopulmonary testing, pharmacology and medication administration
- Record vital signs, take medical histories and prepare patients and rooms for examinations
Learners are responsible for gaining clinical hours with a local company/agency/organization whose work aligns with this area of study in order to gain valuable hands-on experience. Additional documentation including health records, immunizations, drug-screening, criminal background checks, etc. may be required by the facility.
