Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Program
Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) are important members of the healthcare team who provide patient care for those who need minimal assistance to those who are totally dependent. They not only provide physical care for patients, but also emotional and spiritual support - truly making a difference in the lives of patients and families. Through Davenport University’s Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Program you will receive hands-on training from experienced professionals; expand your job knowledge, skills and confidence to begin a rewarding healthcare career. This fast-paced, program provides classroom instruction, hands-on practice in a lab, and real-world clinical experience. Participants who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the State of Michigan examination to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).

- Ability to meet criminal background requirements
Certification / Credits
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Provide basic nursing and personal care for patients and residents
- Assist patients and residents in attaining and maintaining functional independence
- Effectively communicate and interact with clients, families, and other health team members
- Demonstrate an understanding of client’s emotional, social, and physical needs through sensitive interactions and behaviors
- Display an attitude of understanding of client’s rights
- Demonstrate observational and documentation skills needed in the assessment of client’s health and well being
Continuing studies
Acquire the knowledge, skills and confidence to assist patients with health and daily living activities in healthcare facilities under the direction of a registered nurse. The Certified Nursing Aide program is a 85-hour program with a state-approved curriculum which qualifies you to take the Michigan CNA Exam (exam not included). There is a maximum of 8 students per class. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis to students who qualify. On-time, daily attendance is mandatory for the entire program.
