This APMG® Change Management Foundation introduces participants to valuable techniques for handling change and its impact for an organization as well as to tailoring Change Management guidance in a given organizational change situation. Developed by APMG in conjunction with the Change Management Institute (CMI), the aim of this certification is to establish that a candidate has adequate knowledge and understanding of Change Management in order to work as an informal member of a team working on an organizational change initiative. 

APMG’s updated Change Management certification is fully aligned with the change management body of knowledge. The new syllabus samples a wide range of knowledge regarding the theory and practice of change management including:

  • Change and the individual
  • Change and the organization
  • Communication and stakeholder engagement and;
  • Change practice

The Change Management certification is delivered by APMG’s Accredited Training Organizations (ATOs). By passing both Foundation and Practitioner examinations – candidates will have acquired the knowledge needed to receive CMI’s ACM (Foundation) accreditation. They offer successful candidates a simpler route to personal accreditation, with only the experience element to complete. 


A maximum of 8 participants can attend this onsite training course. 

Who should attend?

APMG® Change Management Foundation is suitable for both individuals and organizations as it addresses multiple perspectives on change management.


Individuals enrolling in this course will come to understand how change affects individuals and how to deal more effectively with change to bring them through the change process. They will also become familiar with different types of change and how to work with stakeholders to plan and execute corresponding measures. Finally, participants will come to understand how to assess the impacts of change and how to develop sustainable solutions.


This course helps organizations develops their capacity to effectively respond to change as well as strategy development. It also instructs learners on essential risk management techniques, how to align change initiatives with established, process-driven methods (like PRINCE2® and MSP®) to develop a unified approach to change as well as how to navigate multiple stakeholder interests to develop sustainable solutions to change.

Training Content

Each level of this course has a corresponding exam.

Foundation Level

The exam for the Foundation Level is composed of the following elements:

  • Multiple choice
  • Four sections, total of 50 questions
  • 25 marks required to pass (out of 50 available) – 50%
  • 40 minutes duration
  • Closed-book

Practitioner Level

The exam for the Practitioner Level includes the following elements:

  • Objective testing based on a case study scenario
  • Four questions of 20 marks each
  • 40 marks required to pass (out of 80 available) – 50%
  • 2.5 hours duration
  • Restricted open book – The Effective Change Manager’s Handbook may be used in the exam


The cost of this onsite training course is $1,900 CAD.

Continuing studies

The Foundation certification is also a pre-requisite for the APMG Practitioner certification.
