Application of Quality Management Tools
This training class will demonstrate to attendees how the implementation of the tools of Quality supports contemporary Quality Management Systems, such as ISO 9001, where the 2015 revision requires an integrated approach to risk. These workshops will reflect how levels of organizational and operational excellence can be established, quantified, and reported. Participants attending in this class will become familiar with the practical applications of quality tools through numerous in-class workshops. No prerequisites are required other than an understanding of the business processes and the elements of Quality Management Systems. Practical experience in any industry, at either technical, professional, or managerial perspective will satisfy this prerequisite requirement.

Any employee, professional or non-professional, skilled or unskilled trade will benefit from this course. This course provides an excellent foundation for any organization that does not currently have a formal Quality Management System in place, but desires to improve its performance through contributions from employees, especially employees with responsibilities in processes that add value to the organization’s product or service. Organizations which have accomplished ISO 9001-2008 certification will benefit by becoming more proficient with quality tools to update their existing ISO 9001-2008 to the current revision. NOTE: This class will focus on the application of Quality tools and is not intended to be a training session specifically related to implementation of the ISO 9001-2015 revision.
Training content
- Overview to the seven basic tools of quality: applications, strengths and weaknesses of each tool
- Review to the Plan Do Check Act process (PDCA)
- Building a high performing process improvement team
- Quality requires fact based decision making
- The use of quality tools will be demonstrated through in class exercises using topic of practical application to training participants
- Developing a cause-and-affect or Fishbone diagram
- Quantifying subjective data inputs using a prioritization matrix Failure Mode and Effect Analysis focused on Enterprise Risk management (ISO 9001-2015 element)
- Using the 5-why tool for determining root causes
- Developing a plan for improvement through structured brainstorming, mind mapping and affinity diagram development
- Analyzing run charts for determining process limits, trends, and stability (8 D Process)
- Applying the tools of quality to assess enterprise risk exercise using the tools of quality and PDCA as practiced in days 1 and 2 (depending on class, there might be multiple team project development)
