Transition from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015

ISO 9001:2015 has gone through the most significant revision in 15 years, complete with a new structure, new numbering scheme, new requirements, rewording and redefinition of a number of exiting retirements and the removal of some requirements. Successfully transitioning to the new ISO 9001:2015 will be challenging. With the 2008 publication only being an amendment, users of ISO 9001 have not had to manage a transition to a revised standard for fifteen years. This revision brings with it a new set of challenges. Many of the persons responsible for an organization’s quality management system may have not been in their current role; other quality professionals may not recall the pitfalls they were faced with during past implementation efforts. This session is focused on reviewing how to manage a successful transition. In addition, the standard is set to bring about some large-scale changes. Namely, the revision poses some serious questions concerning the new role and responsibilities of the auditor, significantly the internal auditor. For example, how will the auditor’s relationship with management change? How will the auditor address the new emphasis on “risk based thinking”?
