Course description

The final ruling for crystalline silica exposure has been released by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The rule is expected to provide a net benefit of approximately $7.7 billion, annually through control of exposure and other provisions of the rule. Exposure to silica has been linked to lung cancer, silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and kidney disease in workers. The standard will regulate the Construction, General Industry, and Maritime sectors which have workers that drill, cut, crush, or grind material containing crystalline particulates. This webinar will review the important concepts for protecting your workforce from silica exposure and overview the new OSHA standard and provide tools and tips for the general, construction and maritime industry to comply with the OSHA rules regarding crystalline silica exposure.

Silica dust is a very small particle of hazardous dust that can cause severe scarring of the lungs and lead to death. Silicosis, lung cancer, as well as kidney disease has all been linked to occupational exposure to crystalline silica. Many industries have silica exposure outside of construction activities; however, it is important to address the greatest area of exposure. This is why OSHA has chosen to change the respirable crystalline silica ruling starting in the construction sector.
