Course description

In Plant Maintenance Planning: An Introduction to Reliability-Centered Maintenance, you'll learn ...

  • Historical explanation of how RCM became an industry standard for maintenance planning
  • Risk-based methods to analyze the functions of a system and ensure system reliability
  • Understanding of how to incorporate RCM concepts within a facility design
  • Application of FMECA for an electromechanical system

Overview

Maintenance of systems consists of actions taken to ensure that components, equipment, and systems provide their intended functions when required. Systems are maintained since their reliability degrades with age. Maintenance restores or maintains the original reliability. Hence, the reliability of a facility is predicated on the proper planning of maintenance.

Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) is an industry standard for identifying applicable and effective maintenance tasks needed to maintain the desired reliability of systems or equipment at the minimum cost. It is a risk-based method that employs analytical tools such as failure mode, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA). RCM defines the system functions, identifies the failures that interrupt the functions, recognizes the consequences of each likely failure, and recommends the actions to be taken as a result of each failure.

This overview will present the key concepts of Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) implementation. A walk-through of RCM planning activity is provided for a system in order to reinforce the RCM concepts. This webinar is for engineers who are responsible for the reliable design or safe operation of mechanical and electrical systems.
