Course description
The Management Essentials
Over 50% of new managers don’t last. Why? Because the skills that made them successful in the past are not the same ones needed now. Great leadership is not always intuitive, it’s learned and developed.
New managers need and deserve support to be successful, but most organizations don’t have the internal resources to provide it.
The Management Essentials provides a one-stop, proven solution that equips your managers with the skills and tools they need to lead well.
Who should attend?
The Management Essentials is perfect for:
- New or soon-to-become people managers
- Experienced leaders who haven’t had management training or would like to revisit effective management practices
- Organizations who don’t have an in-house leadership development department, but are committed to supporting their managers
Training content
Module 1 | Developing your leadership core
Great leadership begins with self-leadership. Through a deep dive into different leadership styles and strengths, you will gain powerful insights about leading yourself and others.
Module 2 | Building a healthy, high-performing team environment
The foundation of strong team performance and engagement is a high-trust, well-designed team environment. In this module, we’ll explore a proven framework for creating a healthy work climate that fosters connection, commitment, and results on your team.
Module 3 | Creating clarity
We often think clear direction has been communicated, but in reality most employees don’t know where the team is headed, why, and their role in it. This module walks you through a framework for establishing a clear team vision that each team member owns and executes through individualized objective, measurable goals.
Module 4 | Coaching for growth
You want talented employees who boldly overcome obstacles to deliver results; and they want and need a leader who serves as their coach—someone who sets them up for success, develops their skills, and believes in their ability to succeed. In this module, you'll learn ways to shift from player to coach, plus critical coaching best practices for leading your employees toward greater awareness, responsibility, and performance.
Module 5 | Leveraging the art of feedback
Providing timely and effective feedback—both positive and constructive—strengthens relationships, increases engagement, and transforms performance. But it’s hard to do well. This module will prepare you to confidently deliver timely feedback that’s productive and meaningful. Bonus, you'll also learn practical methods for inviting and receiving feedback well.
Module 6 | Establishing consistent rhythms
Establishing reinforcing practices and systems is the key to driving consistent results. In this module, we’ll focus specifically on creating productive meeting rhythms, and explore how to conduct effective one-on-ones and team meetings. You’ll leave the training with a redesigned operating rhythm tailored to your team's needs and goals.
Module 7 | Defining your leadership philosophy
Though grounded in several evidence-based practices, great leadership is an art form that’s unique to each individual. This capstone module will guide you through an exercise to articulate your leadership philosophy—the beliefs and principles that matter most to you in your leadership. This defined philosophy will anchor your leadership moving forward, enabling you to show up with confidence, clarity, and authenticity.
Module 8 | Reflecting and planning
In this final session, we will briefly review the previous seven modules and complete a corresponding self-assessment. Using insights from the self-evaluation, you will walk away with a clear, actionable plan for continuing your leadership growth journey.
