Course description

Team Up for Innovation - The Blended Learning Approach

Team synergy - “having your energy together” - is essential for your group to innovate at its best. VCI’s Research and experience has revealed 8 qualities that create a positive Team Climate for innovation:

  • Commitment, Conscious risk-taking, Character & courage, Collaborative learning, Creativity with diversity, Cooperative decision-making, Congruence of thought-word-action, and Celebration of achievement + learning

These qualities promote innovative teams that are as safe and trusting as they are dynamic and challenging. For team building that fosters a healthy climate for innovation - even with virtual teams - it’s important to recognize, nurture, and put each quality into daily practice.

Each of the 8 Team Climate qualities has specific behaviors you can put into action today. This course includes a self-assessment and personal profile with insights about the qualities you bring to any team you belong to. It's an essential Talent Management solution for fostering the collaborative teamwork for human centered design.

When you develop your awareness, skill and versatility with the 8 qualities as an individual and as a group you will:

  • Feel confident in your ability to foster a climate for innovation in any team you belong to
  • Build team synergy and experience your team members “bringing their energy together”
  • Collaborate effectively with team members who have diverse viewpoints
  • Motivate stretch goals, conscious risk taking and proactive innovation
  • Be supportive in each role needed for your team to be innovative

Project Leader
Recently, we proposed four options, including one from a junior team member; the client actually accepted the junior’s idea for design. The work is now 80% complete and the design will work. So now, in team huddle meetings, I reinforce that we don’t discard ideas just because they are from juniors.
Senior Account Manager
With my team, I see more opportunities to be proactive rather than reactive, especially with clients who are hard to please and who typically criticize what we do for them. I can now encourage my team to find innovative ways we can exceed expectations.
Senior Program Manager
I’ve recently shared what we learned in the workshop with my team. Rather than just impose my thought, I am looking to assign not just by skill set, but by their strengths of mindset (innovative thinking). I have also started building new team-leader back-ups as a career path for some team members.
