Course description

Driving and Leading Continuous Improvement and Change

This course focuses on implementing change with an emphasis on coaching employees to build change competency. The workshop begins with an examination of the characteristics of different types of change and their impact on planning, people and productivity.

Targeted to management, participants review the multi-dimensional nature of organizational change, engage in a series of exercises that explore the drivers of change, implementation challenges unique to the public sector, leadership and team development and models of change. Participants learn how to align their actions to specific steps in a change initiative and how to engage and support staff in adopting the behaviors needed to underpin and sustain lasting change.

*This course can be customized for length and content.

After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define and differentiate between incremental change and disruptive change
  • Understand various roles and responsibilities during a change initiative
  • Understand the drivers of change in the public sector
  • Recognize and assess the specific barriers and challenges faced by the public sector within a change context
  • Identify opportunities for change and strategies to implement change initiatives
  • Analyze effective change models and processes, identify stages of change initiatives and align actions
  • Apply popular leadership and team development theory
  • Identify common responses to change
  • Manage transitions and support employees as they move through the change cycle
  • Enhance personal resilience and help staff to build change competency

At the end of the course we did a personal resilience questionnaire. I really appreciate topics that create self awareness because in order for leaders to effectively understand and modify the behavior of the employees they first need to understand themselves.

The opportunity to learn concepts in groups at our table was helpful. The theory refresh in the morning by asking groups to question other groups was very inventive and both of you engaged with everyone really well.
